Flight path

At my starting point, I joined EDCI 337 with a basic understanding of interactive
and multimedia learning. I am familiar with commonly used digital tools such as slide
presentations, document editors and simple visual design platforms like Canva. These
tools have helped me organize information and communicate ideas clearly, especially in
academic and team settings. However, my experience with multimedia has mostly been
practical rather than intentional. I usually focus on completing tasks efficiently rather
than thinking deeply about how design choices affect learning. While I understand that
visuals, interactivity and narrative can improve engagement, I have not consistently
designed learning experiences that are grounded in learning theory or strong
storytelling. This course feels like an opportunity to help me learn how to use digital
media more meaningfully

In the future my main goal in this course is to learn how to design interactive
multimedia resources that support learning instead of just presenting information. I am
very interested in learning how storytelling and design thinking can be applied in
educational contexts. The idea of using narrative, choice and interaction to guide
learners through content is something I find interesting but have not had much
experience with. I want to better understand how it can make learning more engaging
while still being clear and effective. I am also eager to work with different media formats
such as comics and web pages.

My personal goals are somewhat connected with the course objectives. I want to
better understand how learning theories inform interactive and multimedia design and
how those ideas translate into real design decisions. Rather than adding visuals or
interactive elements at the end, I want to learn how to apply multimedia design
principles during the planning stage. Engaging in design thinking, especially through
prototyping and revision, will help me become more comfortable with experimentation. I
also want to develop a clearer understanding of what makes interactive multimedia
effective so I can confidently explain and justify my design choices. Learning how to use
GenAI appropriately is another important goal, particularly as a tool for brainstorming
and supporting creative work without replacing my own thinking.

I expect the most challenging parts of this course to be the technical skills and
the creative risk involved in producing unfamiliar types of projects. Creating web pages
or interactive designs feels different due to my limited experience and fear of making
mistakes. I also anticipate difficulty in balancing creativity with clarity, especially when
using storytelling without distracting from learning goals. To handle these challenges, I
plan to break assignments into smaller steps and focus on steady progress. I will use
feedback from peers and instructors to improve my work and revisit course materials
and examples when I feel uncertain. When helpful and allowed, I will also use GenAI as
a support tool for idea generation or problem solving.

To really sum this up, my path through EDCI 337 is focused on growth,
experimentation and intentional learning. By the end of the course, I hope to leave with
stronger design skills, increased confidence working with multimedia and a clearer
understanding of how interactive learning experiences can support meaningful learning.
